History of Purley Players

In 1993 St Mary’s Church, Purley on Thames was in need of some major repairs and Jean Chudleigh and Gerry Hiscock came up with the idea of putting on an Old Tyme Music Hall to raise some much needed funds.  This was intended to be a one off production but it was so well received by both audience and cast alike that it was agreed to put on another one about 18 months later.  Thus, Purley Players was born.

Several Old Tyme Music Hall productions followed and in the year 2000 the Group put on a very ambitious production called “Memories Are Made Of This” which was a review following the events of the last 100 years of the 20th Century.  This proved to be a huge success and encouraged the Group to try different types of productions.

Since then the Group have progressed to put on various types of productions including Pantomimes, Murder Mystery Evenings and plays.
